Temperament & personalityThe Bernese Mountain Dog’s disposition is good-natured. They make very good companions and are certainly loyal canines. They want to serve, protect and please their masters but are also very affectionate. Although they are protectors, they will not be aggressive unless they feel threatened. These dogs are almost never shy when it comes to strangers. They usually become very dependant on their owners and do not prefer to be left alone. If they are left alone for long periods of time, they may bark excessively as they do not want to be isolated from people. Behavioural issues could occur when this breed is lacking human interactions.

As pups, there must be a strong relationship towards building trust with their owner. Common traits of the Bernese Mountain Dog include gentle, watchful, alerting, easy going, calm and strong. Bernese Mountain Dogs are great with children and are very tolerant around them. It is recommended that this breed be introduced to a wide range of people, animals and environments. Socialization and obedience is key for this breed.
